After a long rulemaking process, the State Water Resources Control Board adopted the Making Conservation a California Way of Life Regulation on July 3, 2024. The Regulation is a result of State laws passed in 2018 (AB 1668 & SB 606) and restricts water usage throughout the state by setting new, permanent water use budgets for water providers. An overall water budget will be set for CVWD’s service area, not individual customers or businesses.
For decades, our community has done a great job being water wise, especially during times of drought. However, the Regulation will require additional water use efficiency and CVWD will work with customers on future programs and best practices to meet compliance, which begins in 2027. CVWD will update customers with more information and as pieces of the Regulation go into effect. We will continue to advocate on ratepayers’ behalf to ensure that our community is getting the credit we deserve for investments in local supplies and for conservation efforts by customers.
