The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD/District) hosted its Water Savvy Garden Tour on May 1st and 2nd, in a drive-by format, to educate residents about the value and beauty of water savvy landscapes. Participants joined the self-guided tour to learn how they can make changes in their yards to be more water efficient. Over 75 participants gained knowledge and motivation to transform their high-water using landscape into an attractive, low-water using landscape.
Participants were given maps and materials to guide them on their tour as they visited 10 examples of water-saving landscapes throughout the community, including residential landscapes that were previously selected a s winners for CVWD’s Landscape Contest. By viewing multiple variations of attractive, water saving landscapes, participants are inspired to make improvements in their own landscapes, resulting in water savings while beautifying the community.
“What a wonderful way to conduct the tour safely in these difficult times,” commented a garden tour participant. “My husband and I received great ideas for landscaping our front yard to be native and respectful of the water shortage and environment.”
In addition to the drive-by garden tour, CVWD is offering a virtual garden tour currently on its website at CVWDwater.com. Additionally, it will host a Water Savvy Landscape Webinar on Thursday, May 20 at 6 p.m., featuring a Water Savvy Contest Winner who will share about her personal experience of transforming her yard to become a model landscape for the community.
“CVWD would like to thank the featured landscape owners for being our ambassadors and educating the community about the importance of having a water efficient landscape through our May garden tour activities,” stated CVWD
President Randall Reed. “Being water efficient is always important, and the tours and webinar provides our residents with the tools and knowledge needed to make their own landscape improvements.”
CVWD offers many landscape programs to assist customers in saving water, including educational resources, rebates and more.
