Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – The Cucamonga Valley Water District is now accepting applications for their annual Water Savvy Landscape Contest. The goal of the program is to promote outdoor water conservation through landscaping by recognizing customers whose landscapes are both beautiful and water efficient. Up to three winners will receive a $250 gift card to a local nursery, a sign for their yard, and other recognition. The contest is open to all CVWD customers and will run through April 30, 2019.
Landscapes will be judged based on set criteria: water efficiency, appearance, plant selection, and irrigation design. Overall natural resource conservation will be evaluated. Examples include water efficient plants, use of artificial turf, permeable hardscapes and organic materials.
“Even when we are getting the rain we need, it is always important to be water efficient especially outdoors where 60% of water use occurs,” stated CVWD Board President James V. Curatalo Jr. “The Landscape Contest is a great way to recognize customers who are setting the example for the community through their water saving landscapes, inspiring others to be more efficient. If you or your neighbors have a water saving landscape, we encourage you to apply!”
CVWD is committed to assisting customers in improving outdoor water efficiency and educates residents through programs like the Water Savvy Garden Tour, water timer tune-up programs, and drought tolerant landscape workshops.
