Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) General Manager/Chief Executive Officer Martin E. Zvirbulis announced his plan to retire from the organization after 20 years. In an effort to continue the legacy of service excellence to the nearly 50,000 customers, the District’s Board of Directors will conduct an immediate search for his successor to lead the district into the future.
Zvirbulis joined the CVWD team in 1999 as Deputy General Manager. In 2011, he was appointed the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, a role in which he has excelled with innovation and dedication.
“Marty’s vast knowledge of the water industry has guided the District through great change and progress. In his time at the helm, we have weathered several droughts, moved to a tiered rate structure and launched a new ‘Value of Water’ campaign, among countless other successes,” Board President James V. Curatalo Jr. said. “Marty is a natural leader who guides his staff with humor and grace and an influence that will be greatly missed at our organization.”
Zvirbulis provided insightful management of District operations, policies, and strategic initiatives and helped develop organizational objectives compatible with CVWD’s mission, vision and values.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at CVWD, particularly in watching our team develop together with a focused set of goals and priorities,” Zvirbulis said. “I appreciate all of the opportunities the Board has provided me and I am confident the groundwork has been laid for a very successful future for CVWD.”
In addition to his leadership role at CVWD, Zvirbulis serves as President of Fontana Union Water Company, a mutual water company that provides the District with additional water rights, and is a member of the Chino Basin Watermaster Advisory Committee, which oversees the management of local groundwater supplies. As General Manager, he was tasked with building relationships across boundaries and among organizations while always making the District’s connection to the families and businesses in the service area a top priority.
“Marty positively drove the District to develop more active engagement with our customers,” Board Vice President Luis Cetina said. “He has prioritized being visible in the community, listening to customers and truly exemplifying our commitment to Service Beyond Expectation.”
Zvirbulis has spent 30 years in water utility management. Before joining the District, Zvirbulis was Chief Engineer for San Gabriel Valley Water Company, an investor-owned utility. He oversaw the management and supervision of the Engineering Department, including design and construction of the capital improvement program and development services.
He is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. Zvirbulis is going to work for a right of way and real estate services firm in Long Beach as its Chief Operating Officer.
