- Is the landscape visually appealing? Does it contain color and texture? Is there a distinct theme?
Appropriate Plant Selection
- Are the plants used appropriate for our climate zone?
- Is the landscape design innovative, keeping in mind natural resource conservation and landscape function? Are watering zones appropriately used?
Efficient Methods of Irrigation
- Is a water efficient irrigation system and schedule used for the landscape? Does the system contain high efficiency devices such as drip irrigation, a weather-based timer, and high efficiency sprinkler nozzles?
Contest Rules & Eligibility
Participant must be a current Cucamonga Valley Water District customer.
Overall natural resource conservation will be evaluated. Examples include: water efficient plants, artificial turf, permeable hardscapes and efficient irrigation methods.
Site visits will take place after the application deadline. Judges will determine which applicants' sites will be visited. Owner must be present during site visit if the backyard has been submitted.
Past applicants and Honorable Mention winners may reapply. Past Grand Prize winners are not eligible.
Up to four winners will be chosen. The program committee reserves the right not to issue an award if four sufficient entries are not received. The judges' decisions are final.
