Rancho Cucamonga, CA (April 8, 2010)–The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) announced the winners of its annual Fifth Grade Poster Contest on April 7, 2010. Forty-two students were recognized by the CVWD Board of Directors during an awards ceremony with family, teachers and administrators in the audience. David Mir, the Sweepstakes Winner from Grapeland Elementary School, drew a poster illustrating how each of us plays an important role in conserving and protecting the Earth’s most important natural resource: water.
“I am going to continue drawing because I really enjoy it,” stated David Mir, the 2010 Poster Contest Sweepstakes Winner. “I plan on continuing my education in the field of art and maybe attend cinema school when I graduate from high school.”
All student artwork will be highlighted on stickers and folders that are distributed throughout the year at CVWD events, school field trips, and workshops.
"The Poster Contest heightens student awareness and provides students the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas through the design of their posters,” stated Mrs. Sylvia Kordich, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Pupil Services of the Etiwanda School District. “The school district was greatly impressed by the student's ability to illustrate their awareness of the critical need to conserve our water resources."
