Water Savvy Residents Recognized for Model Landscapes

Weekly Landscape

The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD/District) is pleased to announce the winners of its 11th annual Water Savvy Landscape Contest which promotes water efficiency by recognizing residents who have installed beautiful, water saving landscapes. This year’s Grand Prize Winners are Brooks and Rita Cavin, Samuel and Charlene Dominick, Craig and Sylvia Cavanaugh, and Robert and Susan Weekly. Honorable Mention winners are Rick Dean, John Reynolds, Jeffrey Carver, and Ravi Roy.

Open to all CVWD customers, the 2017 contest kicked-off in February and closed at the end of April. Each landscape was evaluated based on set criteria which included overall water efficiency, appearance, selection of plant material, and irrigation design. The winners were formally recognized at the CVWD Board of Directors meeting on June 27th.

“Educating customers about using water wisely is always important, whether we are in a drought or preparing for the next drought,” stated CVWD Board President James V. Curatalo Jr. “CVWD is grateful for these model residents who are setting the example for the community through their beautiful, water saving landscapes.”

Grand Prize Winners receive a $250 gift certificate to a local nursery and an invitation to participate in CVWD’s Garden Tour. All winners receive a sign for their yard and recognition on the CVWD website and in The Pipeline customer newsletter. Since the inception of the program in 2007, CVWD has recognized 60 homeowners for their beautiful, water-friendly landscapes that feature low water using plants, rock pathways, and efficient irrigation systems.
