On Saturday, April 2nd, 2016, over 1,000 community members attended the region’s largest Earth Day & Open House as the Cucamonga Valley Water District kicked off the month of Earth Day events in Rancho Cucamonga. This event offered attendees a wide span of resources and engaging activities, including over 50 vendors and booths, from solar panel companies to community groups to kids’ activities. Event highlights included landscape workshops, performances by famed Environmental Magician Paul Cash, document shredding, and master of ceremonies Joel Greene - creator, producer, and host of PBS’s “Curiosity Quest.”
The Earth Day & Open House provided a fun, educational environment for the entire family. Attendees also had the opportunity to observe first-hand the cutting-edge work conducted by CVWD staff. CVWD’s Field Service Division team provided a hands-on demonstration of how to program and operate irrigation timers. Other demonstrations included water testing as it happens in CVWD’s water treatment plant, how to identify leaks, emergency preparedness and much more.
“CVWD thanks the community for joining us to celebrate Earth Day and to learn how the everyday decisions we make in life affects our environment,” commented Board President, James V. Curatalo, Jr. “We enjoyed seeing people of all ages having a great time and learning about our District and conservation. Attendees gained a better understanding of the issues affecting our region and can now become part of the solution.”
